The corner numbering is backwards from what I'm used to (10 being open and 1 being tight), but the rest is understandable.

Yeah, that's how I've always heard it too ... 1 is tight, 10 is open ... or whatever your scale is. It depends on the navigator and driver preference though from what I know.

how would they describe the tree? they dont give thickness and the height? lol

Each driver/navigator has a different style. There is no set limit for the numbers. Some drivers might only want 5 variations ... some like 10 I guess. It's preference.
